Welcome to the DGT Chess960 Site!
The new way to play!
Organize a Chess960 tournament!
As a tribute to Bobby Fischer, DGT invites chess clubs, schools, organizers and directors from all over the world to organize in 2008 a Chess960 tournament. Chess960, also know as Fischer Random Chess, was "invented" by the late Bobby Fischer, the 11th and perhaps most legendary world chess champion. He first presented his vision on the future of chess on June 19, 1996 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Chess960 may be Bobby's most important legacy to his fans and chess devotees around world. With this alternate way of playing chess, Fischer put creativity and talent back on centre stage.
Chess960 accomplishes this through the elimination of opening theory. By shuffling the pieces on the back row, according to certain rules, and mirroring the position on the other side of the board, 960 different starting positions may be produced.
